Interstate (and NZ) applicants

Eligibility under ANZRA

Under the Australian and New Zealand Reciprocity Association (ANZRA) Reciprocity Agreement, plumbers from other Australian states and territories and New Zealand are eligible to work in Western Australia, at an equivalent level.

You must hold a Reciprocity Certificate from the relevant licensing authority to be eligible to obtain a tradesperson’s or plumbing contractor’s licence under ANZRA.

Further details are available in section 2.1 of the guidelines to the Tradesperson's Licence Application and the Plumbing Contractor's Licence Application.

Eligibility under mutual recognition

If you hold a current registration or licence, in another Australian state or territory, you are also entitled to apply for a tradesperson's or plumbing contractor's licence under the Mutual Recognition (Western Australia) Act 2001.

To apply for a licence under mutual recognition laws you need to provide a certified copy of your current registration or licence from the state or territory where you are registered or licensed to carry out plumbing work. You must also complete the Mutual Recognition Statutory Declaration on page 10 of the Tradesperson's Licence Application or Plumbing Contractor's Licence Application.

When the Board has received your completed application and supporting documentation under the Mutual Recognition (Western Australia) Act 2001 you are deemed to hold a licence in Western Australia until a decision about your application has been made.

Note that if your registration or licence is not current you must apply to the relevant licensing authority for a Reciprocity Certificate.

Further information about mutual recognition can be obtained by contacting the Board's Licensing Officer on (08) 9476 1377.
