Triennial licensing

Three year licences

The Board introduced a new three yearly licensing system on 1 June 2007. Since that date, all new applicants for a plumbing contractor’s licence or tradesperson’s licence have been issued with a three year licence.

In the past all licences issued were for a 12 month period, expiring on 30 June each year.  With over 4,400 current licence and permit holders in Western Australia the annual licensing system became increasingly difficult to manage as all licence renewals fell due on the same day each year resulting in long delays for processing renewals.

The triennial licensing system offers better service and value to plumbers by reducing the administration associated with the current licensing system.

Additionally, the Board has done away with late fees and the lapsing of unpaid licences or permits. For licensees this means that if your fees are not paid on time you now have to re-apply for your licence if you wish to continue working in the Western Australian Plumbing Industry. For permit holders, this means that if your fees are not paid on time your permit is unable to be reissued.

Transitional arrangements

To successfully introduce triennial licensing, the renewal term of current licences and permits has been staggered with the consequence that the renewal period for those licences and permits will range from between one and three years. Renewals after this term will be for three years from the new expiry date.
